Various Selection Process used in Express Entry PNP’s for 3 Provinces

Canadian provinces use different ways to pick candidates who have applied for Provincial Nominee Program from the express entry pool. Each province has their own set of rules and regulations to shortlist proficient immigrants.

Applicants who receive an Invitation to apply are awarded 600 points in their express profile and they can increase their points in CRS ensuring your chances of acquiring Canada PR visa.

Various approaches used in past week to select candidates under PNP program for the 3 provinces:

  • First-come, First serve
  • Expression of Interest
  • Passive

Last year, more than 17,000 of the 109,497 Canadian permanent residency applicants have provincial nomination through Express Entry system. PNPs that were active last week had one very good thing in common; that all of them do not require a job offer or a minimum CRS score in order to be eligible. Now let’s see out of 3 provinces which province follows which approach.

Nova Scotia follows first come, first serve approach:

Nova Scotia to accept 225 new applications under the most popular stream Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry Category B as per the announcement on 16th November 2018.

NSPNP works on first-come, first-served basis with no minimum or maximum express entry cut-off, job offer and with at least one year of work experience in one of the 11 opportunity occupations listed by the province.

Candidates who receive invitations from this province are awarded with additional 600 points in their CRS points. This leaves these candidates well-positioned for ITA for Canadian Permanent Residence in the upcoming express entry draw.

Prince Edward follows Expression of Interest approach:

On 15th November, 2018 Prince Edward Island invited applicants in the Expression Of Interest (EOI) pool for the provincial nomination. EOI system is a great way of selecting a province of your choice to settle. In this case, Prince Edward Island is a great place to settle and work in. Once a province is sorted

Once they have chosen the province of their choice, their express entry pool is sorted in EOI’s pool of eligible candidates. Profiles are considered eligible on the basis of different factors like age, education, work experience, language proficiency and adaptability.

Ontario follows passive approach

Under Ontario Provincial Nomination Program (OINP) invitations were sent to those candidates who were for following Ontario’s passive Express Entry Stream:

  • Human Capital Priorities Stream(3,534 nominations)
  • French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream(1,476 nominations)
  • Skill Trades Stream(1,445 nominations)

All the above streams are called passive because express entry candidates cannot actively apply or show their interest for being considered for a nomination through them.

Upcoming path for Immigrants

If you take a look at the expected numbers for permanent residency in 2019, combining both express entry programs and provincial nomination program is around 1,42,400 new permanent residents. Next year targets at 330,800 total new immigrant admissions.
