For immigration purposes, Skill Levels and Skill Types of a NOC are:
- Skill Type 0: occupations related to management
- Skill Level A: professional occupations that usually need a university degree

- Skill Level C: an intermediate occupation that usually needs a high school diploma, Skill Level D: labour occupation that usually only require training
To qualify for admission to the Express Entry Pool as a Federal Skilled Worker, applicants must meet the following conditions:
Essential Conditions:
- Possess one-year of continuous full-time paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment within the previous 10 years in one of 347 eligible occupations listed under the applicable National Occupational Classification system; AND
- The work experience must be classified within Skill Type 0 (Managerial Occupations), Skill Level A (Professional Occupations), or Skill Level B (Technical Occupations and Skilled Trades) within the meaning of the National Occupational Classification system; AND
- Score sufficient points under the skilled worker point grid comprising of six selection factors. The current pass mark is 67 points;
- Undergo language testing from a recognized third party and demonstrate intermediate-level language skills in English or French corresponding to the Canadian Language Benchmark of 7
- Possess suitable settlement funding;
- Undergo a successful security background and medical examination.
Canada releases a list of occupations in the regular time of interval, that are facing the shortage of skilled candidates in the local labour market. Any skilled immigrant who is having the required work experience in the in-demand occupations are selected for the PR Visa process.
To facilitate more skilled immigrants in Canada, the Federal government of Canada has multi-year immigration to increase the admission rate of skilled immigrants through various economic immigration programs like Express entry program, Provincial Nominee Program, etc.
The selection criteria of these immigration programs mainly depend on the candidate’s credentials like age, language proficiency, educational qualifications, etc.
Occupation in-demand allows the immigrants to apply for Canada PR Visa without any job-offer. Candidates are only required to have work experience in occupations that are facing the shortage of skilled labour.
What is NOC ?
National Occupation Classification – NOC, is used by the Canadian government to provide a structure for analysis and assessment of occupation in Canada. It is a four-digit code and job description for every occupation in labour market. A nationally recognized system, Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses to evaluate candidate’s work experience
