Canada invites 919 PNP candidates Recent Express Entry Draw

On March 30th Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held its New draw Express Entry draw for PNP Candidates only.

Canadian Government invited only Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates in the new invitation round.

To be invited, Candidates had to have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of at least 785 points. The minimum score required was relatively high because Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates automatically get 600 points added to their score when they receive their nomination. Without the nomination, the lowest-scoring candidates would have had 185 basis points.

In the previous round of invitations, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited a total of 924 PNP candidates to apply to immigrate to Canada.

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser attended the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration meeting on March 24 to answer questions about the state of the immigration system.

In response to when the draws for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) applicants resumed, Fraser again said there was no specific date. Express Entry draws for CEC candidates have been discontinued since September 2021. As a result, potential CEC candidates in Canada have not been able to apply and some risk the end of their work permit validity. Without an Express Entry draw, these temporary workers, often with a non-extendable Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), will not be able to obtain a Transitional Open Work Permit (BOWP) and extend their stay. Instead, they may have to get a work permit backed by a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), quit their job, or even leave Canada.

So far, IRCC has made no official announcement to prevent otherwise qualified CEC or Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) applicants from having their status expire. However, Fraser suggested there might be an opportunity to expand PGWPs or introduce a similar measure.

I intend to do what I can to allow people to stay by extending post-graduate work permits or a power of attorney that will have the same result that could be just as effective,” Fraser said at the meeting. of the committee.

“We need to finalize the political work a bit before we can roll out the kinds of changes I’m talking about, but our goal is to allow those who work here to stay and keep working until they have the opportunity to complete the public relations process, whether through a Federal Skilled Worker or CEC raffle.

FSWP applicants have not been invited to apply since December 2020. There has been no communication since then as to when lottery draws for FSWP applicants will resume except in the public records which are available upon request. access to information.

IRCC’s strategy in 2021 to admit as many applicants to Canada as possible has created a huge backlog in the FSWP. IRCC estimates that it could take 36 months to process some FSWP applications with the current inventory. In order to bring the processing time back to the standard six months, IRCC continued its pause on Express Entry draws for FSWP applicants. Internal briefing notes suggest it will take the first six months of 2022 to clear the backlog. Fraser previously suggested that draws would resume in the spring.
