Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program Plays Vital Role to Fill Gaps of Immigration Targets In 2021

Canada increases its immigration target for 2019 and 2020. Multi-year immigration level plan through 2021 is set for 1.3 million new Permanent Residents through the country’s various economic, family and refugee and humanitarian immigration categories between 2018 and 2021.

IRCC Canada announced the changes on 31 st October, the report corresponds with the first anniversary of IRCC’s original multi-year levels plan, which was introduced to guide Canada’s immigration planning from 2018 through 2020. “Under this plan, Canada will welcome more talented workers with the skills and expertise our economy needs, reunite more family members and accommodate more refugees looking to start new lives,” Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussein, said in his introduction to the report.

The 2019-2021 plan increases admissions targets each year up to 350,000 in 2021. The targets for 2019 and 2020, originally set at 330,000 and 340,000, respectively, but now have been revised to 330,800 and 341,000.

Express Entry and PNP Programs in brief

Express Entry program is a new structure for managing immigration submissions. The country’s migrant platforms include Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades. People interested in immigrating to Canada to live and work on a full-time basis, who meets the eligibility criteria for any of the immigration program, can express their interest in becoming a permanent resident of Canada by creating an Express Entry profile. Once added to the Express Entry
pool, candidates will be marked according to the point-based Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), and this score will determine the candidate’s rank in the pool. People matching the cut off announced by the Canadian government will then be issued an invitation to apply to relocate to Canada as permanent residents.

Under Provincial Nominee Program PR status is acquired by the aspiring candidate through the eligibility criteria being met for each province. The qualifying criteria for every province are different. This program allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals interested in settling in a particular province. Partaking provinces and territories sign agreements with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada that allow them to select applicants who meet the requirements that have been set forth by their respective governments.
